The check digits encoded into an identification document's Machine-Readable Zone (MRZ) are used to validate the personal information in the MRZ (data of birth, expiration date, etc.). For most data and documents, the check digit follows immediately after the data to be validated. A failure to validate can be an indicator that the document is fraudulent.
How to Use the Validator
Single field: Select the “Field type” to be validated. Enter the field data into the “Document number” field. Optionally, enter the field check digit printed on the document. The expected check digit will be displayed in the “CHECK DIGIT” area.
Composite: Enter the field data into the appropriate fields. Enter each field’s check digit from the document in the “CD” field. Optionally, enter the composite check digit in the “Printed” field. The expected composite check digit will be displayed in the “CHECK DIGIT” area.
Full MRZ: Enter every character from each line of the MRZ. Press “Enter” after each line except the last line. The expected composite check digit will be displayed in the “CHECK DIGIT” area. The validation of the individual data fields is displayed below the “CHECK DIGIT” area.
Scan MRZ: The scan feature is not available while accessing the validator from within i9Depot.
